The Tracking Happiness Diary works with custom links. You can add data to your diary by using the same link to your custom form over and over again. With each new entry, your form updates based on the data you’ve added previously.

This article explains how to add an entry to your Tracking Happiness Diary.

If you encountered any issues during these steps, please contact us at [email protected].

Adding your first entry

As soon as you sign up for the Tracking Happiness Diary, you will receive a welcome email with a link to your custom form.

This link will take you to your custom form, which is where you’ll enter your diary entries.

The form contains a couple of sections:

  1. The header of the form
  2. The happiness rating question
  3. The positive happiness factor question
  4. The negative happiness factor question
  5. A daily journal prompt, if you don’t know what to write about in your journal entry
  6. A text field for your journal entry
  7. An optional date field that lets you select a custom date for your entry (use this to backfill your diary if you forgot to write for a couple of days).

1. The header of the form

The header of the form contains information about your Tracking Happiness Diary.

After your diary is fully set up, your form header will be updated each time you add an entry.

2. The happiness rating question

It is required to add a happiness rating to your entry. This happiness rating is a number between 1 and 100.

Any number between 1 and 100 is valid, and you can use a decimal point if you want (for example 72.5).

You can see it as a happiness scale. If you were to grade your own happiness, how high would you rate it?

If you experience a bad day, then you give it a low rating. If you experience a very happy day, then you give it a similarly high rating.

It’s important to not dwell on this exact number. The goal of tracking your happiness is to learn from the overall trends in your life, and not to focus on the difference between a 75 or a 77.5.

3. The positive happiness factor question

When you first use your form, there will be a selection of positive happiness factors to choose from.

If you had a lovely date with your partner, then why not determine your relationship as a positive factor on your happiness? You can add positive factors like these to your diary entry.

These factors are very important for your dashboard, as it adds another dimension to your diary.

However, it’s important to use the factors that you want to use.

Therefore, you need to use the “Other” option to add your own custom factors.

You can add multiple custom factors in the “Other” option, by separating them with a comma and a space.

You can add up to 10 positive factors per diary entry, no matter if they are custom factors or part of the available selection.

You won’t have to re-write custom factors every time you want to make an entry. After you submit the form, your selection of factors is updated so that your custom factors are included in the list of available options.

4. The negative happiness factor question

When you first use your form, there will be a selection of negative happiness factors to choose from.

If you felt miserable because you had a fever, make sure you determine that fever as a negative factor! You can add custom factors to your diary like this.

5. Daily journal prompt

If you don’t know what to write about in your journal entry, you can use this daily journal prompt to get youstarted.

7. (Optional) custom date field

Nobody in the whole history of journaling, since the beginning of time, has ever written every single day of their entire life since the day they first put pen to paper.

So chances are that you’ll forget to write a day or two every now and then.

If that’s the case, you can use the last field in the form. In this field, you can select a custom date that will be used for your diary entry.

This message also includes a link to your personal dashboard. This way, you’ll be able to directly see your entries visualized in your dashboard.

When is the custom form updated?

Your custom form will be updated after each entry you make. This update will do a couple of things:

  • It will update the header with information about your last entry. This will overwrite the default form message “Track a moment in…”.
  • It will update the positive and negative factor checkboxes based on your previous entries.
  • It will update the journal prompt into a new random prompt.
  • It will update the confirmation screen with a new quote.

Please note that these form updates will activate once your diary is completely set up. This coincides with the 2nd email you’ll receive from the Tracking Happiness Diary (titled “Your personal dashboard is ready!”)
