Hi there! I’m Hugo and I’m going to give you a guide on how to get the most out of the Tracking Happiness app.

This is a live guide that will be constantly updated as we continue to work on our Tracking Happiness App. Use the links below to jump to any section that you might be interested in!

If your question is not covered in this guide, please let us know! You can email us at [email protected] with any questions you have. We’ll reply as soon as we can (within 24 hours).

General introduction

With Tracking Happiness, you can journal and track your happiness every day for as many moments as you like. You can easily rate your happiness, add custom feelings and factors to your moments and even add images to make your journal rich and filled with memories.

Based on the data you track, the app will help you understand what really influences your happiness. The statistics inside the app will show you exactly where to focus on in life, so that you can steer your life in a happier direction.

Besides the journaling functionality, the app also comes with an engaging community feature, where you can interact and talk with other happiness trackers from around the world.

And lastly, the Tracking Happiness app contains a huge variety of articles, filled with actionable tips, examples and inspiring stories that will help you learn more about your own happiness.

Adding your first moment

Tracking your happiness is the bread and butter of our app, and it’s a simple process. Whenever you want to track a moment throughout the day, just hit the “plus” sign at the button of your screen. You now have to choose which type of moment you want to add. There are three you can choose, which I’ll explain later.

There are 4 screens that you can fill in when entering a moment, and each screen has a specific function. If you just want to use the app for a specific function, you can always skip the screens that you don’t want to fill.

1. Rate your happiness

The first screen is where you rate your happiness. This is a simple step, which you shouldn’t overthink.

If you’re feeling happy but have no idea if you want to rate your moment with a 7 or 8? Just pick one and move on, it’s not that important! One happiness rating in itself has basically no analytical value.

But as many statisticians know, the more data you collect, the more reliable, interesting and eye-opening the results are going to be. And once you’ve tracked a couple dozen moments, it won’t matter that much whether your happy moment was rated with a 7 or an 8! 😉

2. Determine the feelings of your moment

The second screen allows you to track how you’re feeling in particular. What emotions are you feeling at this moment?

On this screen, you can add as many custom feelings as you want. The feelings that are shown already are feelings that you’ve used and added in previous entries.

Add custom feelings!

You can add your own custom feelings to your moments, which will be saved in your personal database of feelings. These feelings will also be visible in your statistics.

You can add a custom feeling by scrolling to the bottom of your list of feelings, and clicking the bottom “Add feeling”.

3. Determine the happiness factors of your moment

The third screen is all about happiness factors. Which external factors are influencing your happiness right now?

Think about work, the weather, great food, fun times with your friends or maybe you just finished a great book? You can add custom factors here that you can track. There are both positive and negative factors. Some factors can be both, for example, on some days, my work has a positive influence, but on other days, my work has a negative influence on my happiness.

Add custom factors!

You can add your own custom factors to your moments, which will be saved in your personal database of factors. These factors will also be visible in your statistics.

4. Add details to your journal

The last screen is where you can journal and empty your mind of all thoughts, just like you would in a regular journal. You’re also able to add an image here that you can shoot straight from your phone, or add one from your gallery.

Whenever you’re ready, just hit save & exit.

3 different moment types

As I mentioned before, there are three moment types in our app, which all follow the same flow of screens. There is a small difference though, that you should be aware of. Here are the three moment types:

  • Expectations
  • Regular moments
  • Reflections

Expectations

The expectation should be the first moment of your day, which provides you with a moment to think about the day that you’re about to have. Is it going to be a good day? Are you excited about today? What factors do you expect will influence your happiness this day? If you want to track your expectations, this is where you can do it.

Regular moments

Then there are the regular moments, which you can add whenever you feel like it. These are the most common moments that you’re going to use.

Reflections

And finally, there are reflections, which are supposed to be a summary of how your day went in general. How happy was this day for you? This is the time to reflect on your happiness.

I normally try to do this right before I go to sleep.

Of course, the Tracking Happiness app won’t force you to use all these moment types. If you just want to track regular moments or if you just want to track reflections, then you’re free to do so!

Editing previous moments

You can easily edit previous moments, by entering your “Journal” page.

This video below shows a simple example, where I change the happiness rating of a moment from a 5 to an 8!

Joining the tracking happiness community

At the bottom of your homepage, you’ll find access to the community feature of the app.

Posting questions, tips or anecdotes on the community

This is where you can ask questions, post your tips, and just interact with other happiness trackers from around the world. Have a good tip to share? Want to know how others deal with stress at work? Or just want to share a story? This is the place to learn from each other!

Interact on existing topics

When you see a topic that you want to share your opinion on, you can comment on the topic right away.

You can have a friendly conversation, share tips, give a thumbs up to an existing answer, or maybe just post a new topic if you feel like your discussion deserves a seperate topic.

Access all your community topics

If you’re active in the community, it might be hard to keep track of your topics from just the homepage. In that case, you can access all your topics from your account page.

Head over to your account page, and access your Q&A’s right from there!

Your account settings

Your account settings are accessible by going to your “Accout” page and then clicking the gear icon in the top right corner.

Edit your selection of happiness ratings

If you want to edit the available selection of happiness ratings when you’re entering moments, you can do this in your account settings.

Why? Because maybe you want to stop yourself from using the 1 and 10 ratings? Whatever reason you may have, you can customize your selection of ratings in the settings.
